La Liga Review: Top Two Sides Continue Winning Run

The top two teams, Barcelona and Valencia, maintained their lead over the rest of the chasing pack after securing wins in their respective Spanish La Liga Matchday games on Saturday evening.

League leaders Barcelona needed a goal from each half from Gérard Deulofeu and ageless playmaker Andres Iniesta to beat basement club Malaga for an 8th win from 9 games. The home win ensured they stay four points ahead of in-form Valencia.

In the game of the weekend, Valencia thrashed Sevilla 4-0 at the Mestalla to stay on the trail of Barcelona with goals from Goncalo Guedes (2), Santi Mina and Simone Zaza.

Real Betis are also upwardly mobile and have leapfrogged Sevilla into 5th place after a 2-0 win over visitors Alaves courtesy goals from Antonio Sarabia and an Alexis own goal.
