La Liga Review: Phenomenal Barcelona Put Six Past Girona To Go Ten Points Clear As Madrid Strengthen Top Four Bid With Big Victory

Barcelona have gone ten points clear at the top of the Spanish La Liga table after the leaders produced a six-star performance to beat fellow Catalan side Girona 6-1 at the Nou Camp in a Matchday 25 clash.

Lowly Girona took a shock lead in the 2nd minute but Barcelona fought back almost immediately courtesy Luis Suarez before Lionel Messi edge the former European champions ahead.

Messi scored a 3rd goal for his brace before Suarez also completed his brace to put Barcelona 4-1 up just before halftime.

New signing Philippe Coutinho scored his first league goal for the club with the goal of the game for a 5-1 lead before Suarez wrapped up the convincing win for his hattrick with 15 minutes remaining.

The win makes it a record 32-game unbeaten run beating the record set under current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Barcelona (65 points) have now moved ten points clear of nearest challengers Atletico Madrid (55 points) ahead of the Rojiblancos’ visit to Sevilla on Sunday.

The Catalan side’s arch rivals Real Madrid had earlier strengthened their top four bid with a 4-0 win over Alaves at home courtesy goals from Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema (penalty).
