La Liga Brings El Classico And Samuel Eto To Lagos

The 277th El Classico encounter will be beamed live in Lagos by La Liga at the Landmark beach as Real Madrid welcome Barcelona in a return fixture at the Bernabeu on March 1, 2020.

Both sides could not find the back of the net during their last meeting at Camp Nou in December.

La Liga in partnership with Super Sports will beam the game on a giant screen to 1200 people who will have access to different interactive activities, food, drinks, and photo sessions in official jerseys of various clubs in the Spanish top-tier division.

Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Samuel Eto who is currently an Ambassador of La Liga is expected to interact actively with fans as he recounts his experience during the El Classicos he participated in while playing professionally.

The show is organised by La Liga as part of its effort to internationalise the Spanish league according to Guillermo Pérez, a Delegate of LaLiga in Nigeria.

“This view for ElClásico fans is part of LaLiga’s internationalization strategy to be closer and closer to its fans. From the Nigeria Office of LaLiga we want to continue developing actions and activations to help our competition and its clubs to grow in this market,” he said.

La Liga has signed agreements with over thirty football federations with the aim of becoming the second most popular competition after the domestic leagues in respective countries such as the United States, Argentina, Portugal, Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand and Japan.

In 2016, it began a partnership with the Nigerian football federation by sponsoring an U-15 completion for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and facilitated the historic encounter between 2018 Europa League Champions Atletico Madrid and Nigeria’s Super Eagles B Team at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in May, 2018.

Knowledge sharing has been a key part of the partnership as local coaches have undergone a couple of coaching clinics organised by La Liga.
