Kerber Beats Favourite Serena Williams To Win First Wimbledon Open Title

Angelique Kerber has won the Wimbledon Open title for the first time after she defeated favourite Serena Williams in their final clash on Saturday evening.

The 30-year-old German beat the 23-time Grand Slam champion 6-3 6-3 to win her first title at SW19.

American tennis legend and seven-time champion Serena Williams was featuring in her fourth tournament since returning from childbirth and she started as overwhelming favourite against Angelique Kerber.

The German, however, capitalised on her opponent’s lack of mobility to win their final clash in straight sets thereby adding the Wimbledon Open title to her previous two Grand Slam titles.

Angelique Kerber had won both the 2016 Australian and US Open crowns.
