Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been named the English Premier League Player of the month for March after a superlative string of performances that saw him score five goals in three games.
The Leicester City ace scored in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his career, finding the net at Burnley and Brighton before rounding off the month with a superb first Premier League hat-trick against Sheffield United at the KingPower.
The 24-year-old beat off competition from Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez, Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Christensen, Leandro Trossard and Illan Meslier to land the Player of the Month gong.
“I’m so pleased and honoured to win this award,” he told Leicester’s official website.
“I’m really enjoying playing at the minute and hopefully I can push on and help the team to finish as high as possible this season.”
Iheanacho’s triumph crowns a superb turnaround in fortunes for the former Manchester City player who often appeared surplus to requirements at Leicester before this stunning resurrection that has seen him become an indispensable part of Brendan Rodgers first eleven.
In total, Iheanacho scored seven goals in March including a brace against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinal. He has scored 12 goals for the Foxes in 28 games in all competitions.
