Joshua/Pulev Fight Is OFF!

The much publicised boxing bout between world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and his challenger Kubrat Pulev has been called off after an injury to the latter.

Bulgarian fighter Pulev damaged the muscles in his right shoulder during a sparring session at his training camp in Germany some 10 days ago but it was not revealed by his camp.

The injury, said to be muscle strains and tears from his right shoulder through to his chest, has now led to the cancellation of the much awaited fight.

This new development is a big blow due to the fact that over 70,000 tickets had already been sold with a 78,000 full house expected for the fight initially billed for Saturday at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Anthony Joshua ended Wladimir Klitschko’s career at the Wembley Stadium in April and the fight with Pulev was to be his first fight since then with his WBA and IBF crowns on the line if the fight had gone ahead.

Pulev, also known as “The Cobra”, was the mandatory challenger for the IBF belt and has won 25 of his 26 fights, with 13 knock-outs, his only defeat came in 2014 when he was beaten in five rounds by Klitschko.
