Italian Serie A Wrap (Sunday): Inter Capitalise On Juventus Misery To Go Second

Inter Milan have moved into second place on the Italian Serie A table after they defeated Atalanta 2-0 at home in their Matchday 13 clash at the San Siro.

Luciano Spalletti’s men knew a win would take them above Juventus and that was what they got as Argentina forward Mauro Icardi emerged the hero scoring twice within nine second half minutes to hand his side three maximum points against a stubborn Atalanta side.

Earlier, Champions Juventus failed to close the gap on league leaders Napoli following their 3-2 loss to Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferrara Stadium. Duvan Zapata, Gianmarco Ferrari and Lucas Torreira all scored in the second half to give the hosts a 3-0 lead before the late fightback from the Old Lady courtesy goals from Gonzalo Higuain (penalty) and substitute Paolo Dybala.

The win takes Inter Milan (33 points) above Juventus (31 points) into second spot behind Napoli (35 points) as the race for the Scudetto hots up.
