Italian Open: Nadal, Swiatek Win Rome Titles

Rafael Nadal claimed his 10th Italian Open with a 7-5 1-6 6-3 victory over world number one Novak Djokovic in Rome.

The win also saw Nadal draw level with Djokovic on 36 Masters titles.

Both players traded serves in the first set before Nadal took it after securing the key break at 5-5.

Djokovic ran through the second set but Nadal fought back in the decider breaking his opponent with a stunning backhand before closing out the match.

In the women’s final, Polish teenager Iga Swiatek overwhelmed Czech ninth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-0 6-0 to win the title.

The 19-year-old reigning French Open champion took just 45 minutes to dispatch the 2019 winner.

Former world number one Pliskova has now lost back-to-back Rome finals after defeat by Simona Halep last year.
