INSIDE AFCON 2019: Shehu Abdullahi Returns to Eagles Squad as Mikel Obi Seats Out Final Training Session Ahead of Cameroon Clash

ALEXANDRIA – The Super Eagles conducted their final training session ahead of Saturday’s crunch meeting against defending champions Cameroon with captain John Mikel Obi sitting out the team’s training held at the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria today.

Eagles coach Gernot Rohr had already ruled Obi out of tomorrow’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 encounter against Cameroon when he addressed the press earlier at the pre-match conference held at the Alexandria Stadium.

Obi had picked up an injury in the Eagles’ 2-0 loss to Madagascar and was absent from the team’s last open training session on Wednesday but he engaged in some light running around the track although he sat out the main training.

Shehu Abdullahi, the other player who Rohr had also ruled out of tomorrow’s tie against the Indomitable Lions, however, trained with the rest of the team as he continued his recovery from the knock that has kept him out of the last two games.

Nigeria and Cameroon will renew their long-running rivalry at the AFCON for the first time since 2004 with a place in the quarterfinals at stake.
