INSIDE AFCON 2019: Injury Scare For Victor Osimhen in Super Eagles Camp

ALEXANDRIA – Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is a doubt for Nigeria’s last Group B game against Madagascar after appearing to strain his groin in the team’s open training held today at the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria.

The 20-year-old who is yet to make an appearance in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations pulled up after scoring past Ikechukwu Ezenwa in training and fell to the ground in some distress.

But the RSC Charleroi was able to shake off the knock and rejoined his teammates a few minutes later after receiving treatment from the medical team who applied an ice pack to the problematic area.

With the Super Eagles having already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, Osimhen who scored twenty times for his Belgian side last season but is yet to score for the Super Eagles stands a chance of featuring against Madagascar if he proves his fitness and if coach Gernot Rohr decides to rest his regulars.

Nigeria became the first team to progress to the second round of the tournament following their 1-0 win over Guinea on Wednesday. The Eagles had defeated Burundi in their opening match and round off their group stage against Madagascar on Sunday.
