Akwa United star forward Mfon Udoh says his heart is still with his former side Enyimba, declaring ‘I’m still an Enyimba player’ despite his controversial departure from the 7-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions before the end of last season.
The former Enyimba captain, who holds the record of the most goals (23) scored by a player in a single NPFL season, faced his former side on Tuesday in a friendly encounter, with his new club, Akwa United triumphing 2-0.
“Well, it is football, sometimes you play against your former team,” the Super Eagles striker said.
“It depends on the switch and the move.
“It is very, very unfortunate that I have to leave (Enyimba) the way I did, but it is football.
“I still love the People’s Elephant (Enyimba). I’m still an Enyimba player. Once an Enyimba player, is an Enyimba player.
“I love my fans. I love everybody in Aba. Thank you, Aba! Thank you Enyimba fans! Thank you, everybody! I appreciate,” the 26-year old said, rather emotionally.
