I’m Happy To Be At Shakhtar – Olanrewaju Says In First Interview

Nigerian forward Olanrewaju Kayode is delighted to be part of the Shakhtar Donetsk setup.

Kayode was speaking in his first interview since joining the Ukrainian side on loan from Premier League leaders Manchester City earlier this month.

Excerpts from his interview at the club
What do you know about Shakhtar and Ukraine?

– From year to year, I’ve been hearing increasingly more about Shakhtar and following them. The Miners constantly take part in the Champions League, I like the football style they display. They are a top club. These days, everyone in Europe knows Shakhtar, so I’m happy to be part of the team.

Did you watch the game vs Manchester City?

– Of course, I did.

You belong to Manchester City. Do you see any prospects at Shakhtar, where you are going to spend the coming months on loan until the end of the season?

– Yes. I played little in Spain recently, experiencing a tough moment in my career. I consulted my family, and my wife supported the decision of joining Shakhtar. I think that’s the right choice. I just can’t wait for training and my debut!

They have three forwards in the squad besides you – Ferreyra, Blanco Leschuk and Fomin. Don’t you fear competition?

– They are great players. I am a striker as well, so we all will try to benefit Shakhtar. Joining this team is a great experience for me! I will try hard to do my job well.

Who do you know among your new teammates?

– When I used to play for Austria, we had a friendly match against Shakhtar. I didn’t play back then, but I know Fred, Marlos, Bernard … I’ve seen many games – they have just fantastic players here!
