NPLF: Ilechukwu Not Bothered after Enyimba Defeat

MFM FC head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu says he’s not unsettled with his team’s performance despite the 2-0 loss to Enyimba on Sunday in Aba.

The People’s Elephant claimed the full points with a 2-0 win over the Lagos-based team in one of the opening fixtures of the 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Enyimba International Stadium courtesy of a goal each from Nelson Ogbonnaya and Abdulrahman Bashir.

MFM began the new top flight season with relatively new and young squad alongside captain Austine Opara, Zikiye Jonathan, Abisoye Olawale, Julius Emiloju, Chijioke Akuneto and proved their mettle but all of their attempts in front of goal could not yield any meaningful result after 90 minutes.

While addressing the press after the game, Ilechukwu said: “ I am not disappointed. I am not because we played a better side honestly speaking. Enyimba is a big team we just tried if we can and that’s football.”

The gaffer admitted that plenty of work needs to be done especially in the attack.

“I think we really need serious work in converting chances which has been a problem even in our pre-season games.

“You know when you have a lot of young players in the attack, I expect such thing and that was why we tried to get one or two experienced players but we couldn’t,” he concluded.

The Adekoya Boys will hope to bounce back from this defeat when they host Kwara United in Matchday 2 of the NPFL at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium on Wednesday.
