IHF Challenge Trophy: Nigeria Qualify For First Ever Final at Canada’s Expense

Nigeria’s U19 handball team triumphed over Canada to reach their first final in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Challenge Cup at the Palace of Youth and Sports in Pristina, Kosovo.

At halftime, Nigeria were already on course to seal a historic victory over Canada with the scores at 18 – 10 before going on to beat their highly rated opponents 32 – 25.

The spirited West Africans fought back from an opening game loss to Chinese Tapei to beat Paraguay 34 – 21 before sealing their place in the finals with a semifinal victory over Canada.

Delighted by the resolute performance put up by the Coach Emeka Joseph tutored wards, President of the Nigerian Handball Federation, Sam Ocheho immediately reacted to the victory.

“’What more can I say? I am delighted at the feat of these young men. Despite losing their first game, they are in the final. This is the never give up spirit of every Nigerian. On behalf of HFN, the handball family and Nigerians I say a big congratulations to them.” He said.

He further admonished the team to stay focus and win the IHF Intercontinental Challenge Trophy.
