‘I’D LIKE TO RETIRE AT REAL MADRID’- Ballon d’Or winner

Luka Modric has affirmed his commitment to Real Madrid, saying he wants to retire at the club after beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the 2018 Ballon d ‘Or.

The Croatian became the first player who is not Messi or Ronaldo to win the much-coveted prize since Kaka did so in 2007, breaking the Juventus and Barcelona stars’ decade-long dominance.

Modric after becoming the first Croatian to win the award pledged his future to the three-time reigning Champions League holders Real Madrid amid interests from Serie A side Inter Milan.

The 33-year old who attracted interest from Inter Milan in the summer said: ” I have two years left and hopefully one more.

“The club shows me a lot of affection and I’d like to retire at Real Madrid.

“My family enjoys it and I want to keep enjoying this huge club.”

Luka Modric had a clean sweep of all the major individual honors in 2018, capping it off by edging five-time winner and former team-mate Ronaldo to the Ballon d’Or after a stellar campaign for both club and country.

Modric and Real Madrid are back in action Thursday night in the Copa del Rey against Melilla.
