IAAF Rules: Misfortune Befalls Team Nigeria as Divine Oduduru and Blessing Ogbare’s Change of Plan Backfires at Doha 2019

Team Nigeria’s chances of winning more medals has been cut short as Divine Oduduru’s name was excluded on the final entry least of the men’s 200m race scheduled for Saturday.

Oduduru had on Friday opted out of running in the men’s 100m event and according to the rules of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) , the 100m and 200m NCAA double champion is now ineligible for other events in Doha.

Earlier, Busybuddies reported that both Blessing Okagbare and Divine Oduduru had opted out of races on the track on day one of the competition even when their names had been released on the final entry list for yesterday’s events.

It is likely Blessing Okagbare will no longer have any business at Doha for flouting IAAF rules 2018/2019.

Section 2, Rule 142 of the IAAF Rule Book states that, “an athlete shall be excluded from participation in all further events in the competition, including relays, in cases where a final confirmation was given that the athlete would start in anevent but then failed to participate.”

Okagbare’s exclusion will now mean Nigeria will now no longer win a medal in the women’s 100 and 200m events considering she was Nigeria’s sole representative in those categories.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s hope will now rest on Emmanuel Arowolo in the men’s 200m event.
