Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has stoked the rivalry with his Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi after he saw off the Argentine and Brazilian star Neymar to win The Best Men’s Player at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony held in London on Monday night.
Ronaldo fuelled the longstanding rivalry by telling reporters he has now won the award five times in reference to Messi who has also won the much coveted prize on five different occasions.
When asked about the award after the event, the Portuguese international captain said:
“Obviously, this is another beautiful moment in my career, and this was something I wanted.”
“I worked to win once more, and I have now won best player five times. I’m very happy.” he added.

The votes were cast by four categories of people namely national team coaches, national team captains, media representatives and the fans with each category taking 25%.
