I Am Ready To Play Anywhere – Eagles Captain Mikel Obi

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has disclosed that he’s ready to play anywhere head coach Gernot Rohr wants him to play in the upcoming games in Group D at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Tianjin Teda FC of China midfielder was speaking with journalists at the team base in Essentuki, Russia on Wednesday.

He has been heavily criticised by many Nigerian fans after his below average performance in an offensive role in the team’s 2-0 loss to Croatia in their Group D.

Many fans and pundits have been clamouring for him to drop back to a more familiar defensive role starting from the game against Iceland at the Volgograd Arena in Volgograd on Friday.

In his words, John Mikel Obi said: “I have played in this advanced role for close to two years now and people never complained until we lost this game to Croatia.”

“Personally, I am ready to play anywhere the coach wants me to play. I am comfortable with any of the roles, whether in a more offensive or defensive role. The most important thing is for the team to get positive result.” He added.

John Mikel Obi and his teammates have to beat Iceland to resurrect their ailing World Cup campaign as a draw is unlikely to be enough going into the final Group D game against old nemesis and former winners Argentina.
