Howedes Ends 16-Year Association With Schalke To Join Lokomotiv Moscow

Germany defender Benedikt Howedes has signed for Russian Premier League outfit Lokomotiv Moscow after ending his 16-year association with Schalke 04.

Howedes, 30, has penned a four-year deal at Lokomotiv Moscow and would be hoping to resurrect his ailing career after his failed loan spell at Italian champions Juventus where he made three Serie A appearances because of injury.

Benedikt Howedes has been at German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 since the age of 14.

The 2014 World Cup winner rose through the ranks at the club and went on to captain the first team.

He made 240 appearances for Schalke 04 in addition to winning the 2011 German Cup title.

Speaking about Howedes’ exit, Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel said: “Last summer, Benedikt looked for a new challenge at Juventus.”

“We wish him all the best in the new sporting chapter of his career at Lokomotiv Moscow, who did a remarkable job last season.” He concluded.
