The Nigerian women’s bobsled team entered into the history books earlier this week after becoming the first Africans to ever qualify for the Winter Olympics.
They will now compete at next year’s Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The victorious Nigerian team is made up of driver Seun Adigun, brakewomen Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga.
Their dream of competing at the Winter Olympics was aided by the $150,000 (130,000 euros, £114,000) they crowd-funded. The money was needed to train and compete and in addition, their strong online profile prompted sponsorship from Visa and sportswear manufacturer Under Armour.
