HFN Sets Tentative Date For Prudent Energy Handball Premier League

The Handball Federation of has tentatively scheduled the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League for October in Abuja.

A statement by the HFN secretary-general Alhaji Maigidansama Mohammed said the top tier handball league which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic will hold in the nation’s capital from 23 October to 7 November.

The tournament will, however, only go ahead if approval is granted bythe Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Alhaji Maigidansama said the unique circumstances of this year’s tournament means the first and second phases will be scrapped and all teams in the men’s and women’s categories will play each other in a round robin format to determine the 2020 champions. 

Teams are expected to commence preparations for the tournament in line with the tentative date pending approval by the sports ministry.

The HFN said all participating teams are expected to  ensure strict compliance with the Covid-19 protocols put in place by the Sports Ministry.

Players and officials are required to undergo mandatory coronavirus tests and obtain NCDC certified documents of their status which must be done no later than a week to the commencement of the championship.
