HFN President Reaffirms Commitment to Eliminate Age Cheat

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Samuel Ocheho has stated that the board of the federation is focused on eliminating age cheat.

Ocheho who made this revelation as a young Nigeria side are winning games in Zone 2 and 3 championship organized by the French Handball Federation In Conjunction with the Confederation of Africa Handball (CAHB) in Lome, Togo, also stated that there is a deliberate plan to discover young players from the grassroots.

Nigeria fielding unarguably the youngest team of the tournament surprised fans in Lome with their show of Handball skills as they defeated Mali in the first game 35-30 and then defeated Ghana 36-27 to the delight of the fans.

Judging from the physical size of the boys, the crowd had thought they would be overran by Mali in the first game but to the surprise of the crowd, the young lads who were picked from last years Under 15 and this year’s Under 18 games showed complete mastery of the game.

Ocheho, who was very delighted, revealed that it was very deliberate to send an inexperienced team for the competition.

“We deliberately excluded our current National U18 boys who are still within the age just to expose new sets of boys for the future”. the HFN President said

“We are  on the right track and we call on Nigerian to support our quest to expose younger people to the game with the view of becoming future champions tomorrow”
