Heynckes Set For Bayern Return?

Latest reports in Germany suggest that Jupp Heynckes is set to return to Bayern Munich as manager after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked last week.

The 72-year old German has had three stints in charge of Bayern Munich and won the German Cup, the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League treble in 2013 after he had announced his plans to retire at the end of that season.

Although he has not managed any other team since his heroic retirement, it is strongly believed that the Bayern Munich management have turned to him and have offered him a deal to manage the club until the end of the season.

Former Mainz and Borrusia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has been heavily linked with the Bayern job as well as Hoffeinham’s Julian Nagelsmann. Asturian manager Luis Enrique has also been thrown into the mix in recent days but the former Barcelona man is on a self-enforced sabbatical that might take a lot to cut short.

Bayern Munich sacked Carlo Ancelotti in September after a 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and his assistant and former Bayern player, Willy Sagnol was appointed on an interim basis. They drew 2-2 at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday against Hertha Berlin leaving them 5 points behind Borussia Dortmund in the race for the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich next face Freiburg on October 14 at the Allianz Arena before Celtic come visiting the following midweek in the UEFA Champions League.
