Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has lost his mother, Jessy, the Nigeria Football Federation announced on Wednesday.
The NFF released a statement on their verified Twitter handle announcing the news and commiserating with the player.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of @ng_supereagles forward, @c.henry7 , following the sad passing of his dear mother. May her soul Rest In Peace,” the statement said.
Onyekuru’s Turkish club Galatasaray also released a statement following the sad development.
“The painful day of Henry Onyekuru. We have learned with great sadness that our footballer, Henry Onyekuru’s precious mother, Jessy Onyekuru,” the club tweeted.
“We share the pain of Henry Onyekuru and his family and extend our condolences and patience.”
Onyekuru has scored one goal in 12 appearances for Nigeria and was most recently involved in the Super Eagles final AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho, providing an assist for Paul Onuachu in the latter.
