Handball Premier League: Defending Champions Falter On Opening Day

Defending champions in the women’s category, Plateau Peacocks got their Prudent Energy Handball Premier League title defence to a faltering start with an 18-18 draw with Edo Dynamos on the opening day of action at the Abuja National Stadium.

In other matches decided on Tuesday in the women’s category, Imo Grasshoppers were ruthless in a one-sided 39-11 victory over Owens Queens while Safety Babes saw off Desert Queens 43-20. The match between Defender Babes and Kada Queens ended in a 21-21 draw while Seasiders Babes were awarded a walkover victory over Abia Valiants who were late in arriving at the match venue. 

In the men category, Kada Stars defeated Bornu Spiders 38-31 while Kano Pillars dispatched Lagos Seasiders 38-27. De Defenders scored a comfortable 36-21 victory over Owena Kings while Safety Shooters shot down Prison Key Boys 47-27.

Plateau Vipers sealed a 25-19 win against Sokoto Rima while defending champions Niger United scored a walkover victory over COAS Shooters who were penalised for arriving two hours after throw off time.
