Halep To Meet Stephens In French Open Final

Reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens stands between top seed Simona Halep and a first Grand Slam title after she defeated Spanish third seed Garbine Muguruza in their semi-final clash on Thursday evening.

The Romanian, 26, defeated Muguruza 6-1 6-4 and will now face American Sloane Stephens in Saturday’s final after she beat compatriot Madison Keys 6-4 6-4.

World number one Halep would be hoping to be fourth time lucky having lost three previous Grand Slam finals namely the 2014 and 2017 French Open as well as this year’s Australian Open which she lost to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

She lost to Maria Sharapova at Roland Garros in the 2014 final before losing last year’s final to Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.

While reacting to her latest win, Halep said: “I think I played one of my best matches on clay.”

“Every day I play better and that makes me happy.” she added.

Speaking further, Halep, who has won just one of her last eight finals, said: “I have more experience now.”

“I feel calm. I feel that I have to enjoy this victory because it’s a great match.

“And I have two more days until I will play the final. So I will relax and then we will see what is going to happen Saturday. But for sure, I will fight for every ball.” she concluded.
