Only Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players who prove their mettle will be given a chance to join Nigeria’s Men National Team, Coach Gernot Rohr says.

Ifeanyi Anaemena was the only player from Nigeria’s domestic league on the squad list for Super Eagles’ 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifier fixtures against the Benin Republic and Lesotho.

Speaking to the media after Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat of the Squirrels of Benin, Rohr explained he was still handling the project of building a formidable team for Nigeria in the nearest future.

“We have our project. we have a team for the future For three years, we have been together most of us here. The team is progressing and we now have young boys that are coming in.” He said.

However, the Franco-German tactician revealed he was aware of the call for the inclusion of home-based players in the Senior National team but maintained he could only go for the best.

“I know that you want more and more home-based players but the quality we have abroad is higher than in the home base but we took somebody again to give him a chance and we will always give a chance to the players that deserve.”
