German Open: Progress For Aruna Quadri, Tears For Olajide Omotayo

Aruna Quadri progressed to the Preliminary Round 3 of the 2020 ITTF World Tour Platinum, German Open with a straightforward defeat of Romanian foe Hunor Szocs.

The world number 18 and Africa’s top-ranked player spent just shy of 26 minutes on the table as he destroyed Szocs in straight sets 11-8, 11-3, 11-5, 11-7.

African games champion Olajide Omotayo wasn’t as lucky as his compatriot as he suffered a premature end to his tournament with straight-sets loss to Korea’s Seungmin Cho who triumphed 11-7, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9 in 24mins 46secs.

Aruna Quadri next plays Finland’s Benedek Olah in Round 3 on Wednesday for a place in the main draw.
