German Bundesliga Wrap: Bayern Extend Lead To 16 Points As Schalke Go Third Despite Draw

Champions Bayern Munich have extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to 16 points after they came from behind to beat Werder Bremen 4-2 at the Allianz Arena in a week 19 clash on Sunday evening.

Thomas Muller cancelled out Jerome Gondorf’s opener for the visitors before Polish striker Robert Lewandowski added a second goal after the interval to put the home side 2-1 up.

A Nicklas Sule own goal pulled Werder Bremen level but the German champions were not to be denied as Lewandowski and Muller added two late goals for the Bavarian giants to claim the three points at stake.

Muller scored his 100th Bundesliga goal with the 4th Bayern strike as the home side record a 15th successive win against the away side.

In the other game on Sunday, Schalke 04 move from 5th to 3rd spot despite playing a 1-1 draw with Hannover 96 at home.

Marko Pjaca’s 16th minute opener was cancelled out by Nicklas Fuellkrug with four minutes left to deny Schalke 04 second spot behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
