French Open Recap (Women): Wozniacki Eases Into Last 16 As Fourth Seed Svitolina Suffers Surprising Defeat

Second seed Caroline Wozniacki secured an easy passage into the last 16 at the French Open following her straight sets win over Frenchwoman Pauline Parmatier.

Wozniacki thrashed her opponent 6-0 6-3 to book a fourth round spot.

The Dane will now face Darya Kasatkina of Russia who got the better of Maria Sakkari in three sets (6-1 1-6 6-3).

Fourth seed Elena Svitolina didn’t , however, qualify for the next round after the Ukrainian was beaten 6-3 7-5 by Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania.

The world number 33 has now won a third successive Grand Slam match for someone that came to Roland Garros without previously winning any Grand Slam match.

Svitolina was magnanimous in defeat as she showered accolades on her opponent.

In her words, she said: “Today, really, I was off and couldn’t find my rhythm, my game. I was really struggling.”

“On the other hand, she was playing great tennis. She was really, really on the ball.” She stated further.
