French Ligue 1 Review: Marseille Leapfrog Champions Monaco Into Second Spot After Late Strasbourg Win

Olympique Marseille have moved into second place on the league table behind leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after their late 2-0 win over Strasbourg catapulted them above Olympique Lyon and champions AS Monaco.

Two goals in the final 11 minutes from former Premier League players Clinton Njie and Dmitri Payet atoned for Valerie Germain’s 72nd minute penalty miss as Rudi Garcia’s men secured an important win over their visitors.

Both substitutes played a huge role in the win but the highlight of the game was undoubtedly Payet’s outrageous skill for the second goal which wrapped up three points for the home side.

Champions AS Monaco are down in 3rd place following a disappointing 2-2 draw with OGC Nice in their week 21 French Ligue 1 clash on Tuesday night.

Colombian international striker Radamel Falcao scored on the stroke of fulltime to rescue a point for his side after a second half double from Nice’s controversial striker Mario Balotelli overturned Adama Diakhaby’s first half strike.

In the final French Ligue 1 game played on Tuesday night, 10-man Bordeaux suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Caen.
