French League Cup Round of 32 Wrap: St. Etienne Stunned; Tolouse, Lille Into Next Round

Saint Etienne have crashed out of the French League Cup after they were beaten by newly promoted French Ligue 1 side Racing Strasbourg on penalties in their round of 32 clash.

Stephane Bahoken gave hosts Strasbourg a first half lead with nine minutes Remyaining in the half before Hernani’s late equaliser for Saint Etienne ensured the two sides would need penalties to decide who goes through. The home side thereafter went on to win the penalty shootout 5-4 thus securing their place in the next round.

Former league champions Lille also needed to win 5-4 on penalties to move to the next round ahead of Valenciennes after both sides had been deadlocked at 2-2. Tolouse are also into the round of 16 following a 4-2 win over Clermont Foot.
