French Giants PSG, Lyon Start League Season On A Winning Note

French giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Olympique Lyon started the new Ligue 1 season with respective victories on Sunday.

In the late kickoff, defending champions PSG thrashed Caen 3-0 at the Parc des Princes with Italian football legend Gianlugi Buffon making his league debut for the home side.

Neymar, Adrien Rabiot and substitute Timothy Weah got the goals for PSG in new manager Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge.

In the first game, this season’s Champions League campaigners Lyon defeated Stade Amiens 2-0 at home.

Burkina Faso international forward Bertrand Traore and his Dutch teammate Memphis Depay struck either side of the halftime interval to give Bruno Genesio’s team the victory.

In the other game played on Sunday in the French Ligue 1, 10-man Bordeaux were beaten 2-0 at home to Strasbourg.

Ibrahima Sissoko and Nuno da Costa scored within ten second half minutes to secure victory against a Bordeaux who had Brazilian defender Pablo sent off as early as the 13th minute.
