Florentino Perez Blasts Spanish Federation President Over Lopetegui Fiasco As New Madrid Manager Is Unveiled

Real Madrid manager Florentino Perez has blasted the Spanish Football Federation President, Luis Rubiales over the treatment of Julen Lopetegui.

Perez was speaking during the unveiling of the 51-year-old Spanish tactician as the new Real Madrid manager on Thursday evening.

Lopetegui was sacked as the Spanish national team manager earlier this week just less than 24 hours after he signed a three-year deal to become the new boss at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu and just some days before the start of the World Cup tournament in Russia.

In his words, Perez said: “There is not a single reason to get rid of him by Spain”. He was strong against Rubiales: coach and club were free to negotiate, Rubiales does not own his coaches, that way of thinking is over in the XXI century.”

Lopetegui added: “If this was any other club other than Real Madrid, would I still be on the Spanish bench? That’s a good question… I think Rubiales should’ve done things in a different way. Anyways, tomorrow I’ll meet with Florentino and José Ángel to talk transfers.”
