Flamingoes Fail In World Cup Bid

Nigeria’s national women U17 team, Flamingoes, have failed to qualify for the World Cup after they lost to Cameroon on away goals despite playing a 1-1 draw in their away leg in Yaounde.

Flamingoes had played out a 2-2 draw with Cameroon at home before both sides played out a 1-1 draw in their second leg clash earlier on Sunday.

Kameni gave the hosts a 16th minute lead before Vincent Precious Martha equalised for Nigeria in the second half but it proved to be inadequate as the team lost out to the Cameroonians on away goals.

Nigeria fail to qualify for the U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time after featuring in the previous five editions.

Cameroon will now join other countries like South Africa and Ghana at the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in France.
