First Bank Basketball Club Set To Sign Foreign Players

Head coach of First Bank Women Basketball Club Peter Ahmedu says the club is close to signing four US-based D’Tigress players on short-term contracts for the upcoming FIBA Afroleague qualifiers in Mozambique.

First Bank, winners of the 2018 Zenith Bank Basketball Women League champions for record ninth time will be Nigeria’s representatives on the continent and Ahmedu who also won his third title as the handler of the team believes that the quartet of US-based players will add the quality required to successfully take on continental opposition.

“We are going for a five day training tour in Cotonou, where the qualifiers are going to start and we are trying to bring in two or three players from the US to be able to beef up this team, because going to play in the African Club Championship is a different ball game, Ahmedu told busybuddiesng.com.

“We are having an agreement with Cecilia Okoye, Aisha Mohammed, Ezinne Kali and Jasmine Nwajei for like 21 days when they come to train with the team then go play the championships and fly back to their clubs.

“They will be here for a total of two weeks from now till the championship in Mozambique,” he said.
