FIFA’s Best Player Award Selection Process Altered

World football’s governing body, FIFA announced a change in the selection process for the Player of the Year Award.

According to FIFA, the number of candidates will be reduced from 23 to 10.

The football body also confirmed that the ten ‘The Best Award’ candidates, in both the male and female categories, would be revealed on July 23, eight days after the conclusion of the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

The candidates for the male category will be selected by a jury of experts, including Frank Lampard, Ronaldo and Fabio Capello, while the jury for the female category will be made up of football legends, like Maia Jackman, Sun Wen and Mia Hamm.

After the ten candidates for the award have been revealed in both the male and female category, the voting process will start and fans, national teams’ captains and coaches, as well as 200 journalists will be eligible to make their choice.

The voting deadline is August 10 before the announcement of award recipients during the FIFA gala scheduled for London on September 24.
