FIFA WWC: Six Home-based Players Make Dennerby’s Super Falcons Squad

Head Coach of Nigeria’s female national football team, Thomas Dennerby, has included six home-based players in his squad for the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in France which he released in Austria on Friday.

The inclusion comes as n surprise as the Swede has relied on Rivers Angels goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi as first choice goaltender, helping the Super Falcons to a ninth African Women Cup of Nation last year.

Also making the team are super forward Desire Oparanozie and defender Onome Ebi including usual suspects like Osinachi Ohale, Ngozi Ebere, Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Okobi, Halimatu Ayinde, Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Francisca Ordega all make the roster. However, defender Josephine Chukwunonye and England-based forward Ini-Abasi Umotong were axed.

Defender Chidinma Okeke made the cut, as did midfielders Amarachi Okoronkwo and Evelyn Nwabuoku and Rivers Angels forward Alice Ogebe.

The Super Falcons will depart Austria – where they are on a two-week residential camping – Tuesday, 4th June for France, where they play Norway, Korea Republic and host nation France (in that order) in the group phase.
