Flying Eagles star Success Makanjuola says he is not carried away after being named man-of-the-match in Nigeria’s impressive 1-1 draw against Ukraine on Thursday at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
The Flying Eagles put up an improved performance in their crucial last Group D clash against Ukraine to ensure qualification to the knock out phase with Makanjuola enjoying his first start in the team’s line up.
The Water FC of Abuja dazzling winger, however, did not disappoint as his well-taken cross resulted to a penalty which was calmly converted by Muhamed Tijani, who earlier missed a spot kick in the first half.
“I am really not too bothered about individual accolades for now,” the 18-year-old said after the match. “I’m just concerned about helping the team to do well, and I’m happy that the entire team put up a good fight and we achieved our goal, which is making it to the knockout round.
“The knockout round is a different ball game altogether and so, our focus now is to prepare well to make Nigerians happy because we know they were not happy when we lost to the U.S.
“We are not even thinking of the team we will play in the next round, we just want to be at our best when the match comes and the coaches are working hard to get us in perfect shape for the next round.”
In his first start for the team in Poland, the exciting winger was in the heart of the Flying Eagles overall display against the Ukrainians with his constant dangerous corner kicks, crosses and one-on-one take on for the entire 87 minutes he lasted on the pitch.
