FIFA Ranking: Super Eagles Climb Four Places In March

The Super Eagles are up to third in Africa after moving up four places from 36th to 32nd in the latest FIFA World Ranking for March 2021.

A FIFA statement said a new methodology for calculating ranking points now rounds off to two decimal places enabling more precision in the calculations.

Nigeria’s points total for March now stands at 1,474 points according to the ranking released on Wednesday, placing them third on the continent.

The Super Eagles were Africa’s fifth-best team in the previous ranking but have seen their ranking improved following wins over Benin and Lesotho in last month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Senegal maintain their spot as the top-ranked team on the continent despite dropping two places while Tunisia remain unmoved in second place. Algeria and Morocco are fourth and fifth with Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon, Mali and Ivory Coast completing the Top 10.

On the global front, the top ten remained unchanged with Belgium still number one ahead of France, Brazil, England and Portugal.

Spain, Italy, Argentina, Uruguay, and Denmark complete the Top 10.

The next FIFA ranking will be published on May 27.
