Federer Beats Raonic To Win Stuttgart Open

Top seed Roger Federer has won this year’s edition of the Mercedes Cup (Stuttgart Open) after he defeated Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets in their final clash on Sunday evening.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner got the better of Raonic 6-4 7-6 (7-3) to win a 98th Tour title.

The Swiss tennis legend choose to miss the clay-court season meaning that the tournament was his first since the Miami Open in March.

He had already secured a return to the top of the men’s ranking scheduled for release on Monday with the semi-final win over Nick Krygios.

Federer was delighted with his win over Raonic. In his words afterwards, he said: “I played very well throughout the tournament, it is a great comeback for me. I am so happy to have won.”

“I was hoping to play a couple matches here but I have played four and won them all. The last few have been very good.

“I hope I keep it up at Halle and Wimbledon. It will give me a boost as well being back at world number one.” He concluded.
