The Alexandria stadium was built in 1929, ninety years ago and is christened the home of football. It is among the oldest stadiums still in use in Africa.

According to Egypt Today, the site on which the Alexandria Stadium was built was the venue for the first football match in Egypt.

It is recorded that the remains of the world’s greatest general Alexander the Great was been buried in the city of Alexandria. The city of Alexandria was founded in 331 BCE by Alexander the Great and it is no coincidence that the stadium has it’s coinage from the name Alexander.

The Stadium will host five group stage matches and one Round of 16 fixtures during the continental showpiece which commences June.
