FA Cup Review: Chelsea Scrape Past Stubborn Norwich Via Penalties; Premier League Sides Swansea And Bournemouth Experience Contrasting Fortunes

Chelsea made hard work of their FA Cup 3rd round replay against English Championship side Norwich City as they needed penalties to edge past Daniel Farke’s side and book a 4th round spot.

Both sides played a 1-1 draw in relegation time and extra time before the Blues won 5-3 on penalties.

Last season’s losing finalists took the lead with ten second half minutes gone courtesy Michy Batshuayi but their second tier opponents got the reward for their industrious play after Northern Ireland youngster Jamal Lewis scored on the stroke of fulltime to force extra time.

During extra time, the Spanish attacking duo of Pedro and Alvaro Morata were sent off for two yellow cards within the space of few minutes.

The hosts thereafter secured a 5-3 win over the Canaries as Portuguese international striker Nelson Oliviera had his penalty saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

Chelsea will welcome back former manager Rafael Benitez and his Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge for their 4th round scheduled for next weekend.

Premier League’s bottom club Swansea City and Bournemouth suffered contrasting fortunes in their respective FA Cup third round replay games.

Swansea City defeated English Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at home courtesy goals from Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Bony while Bournemouth were thrashed 3-0 at Wigan.

Swansea City will now travel to face Notts County in the 4th round while Wigan host in-form Premier League team West Ham United.
