Exclusive: Enyimba’s Iwuala Arrives Tunisia To Seal Esperance Move

Enyimba star Anayo Iwuala has arrived Tunisia ahead of a move to 4-time African champions Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

The 22-year-old dazzling winger is in Tunis to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical after both clubs agreed a deal for the transfer of Iwuala, following weeks of negotiation.

Enyimba value the mercurial winger at one million euros, but Esperance will instead pay around $500,000 for the services of the former Delta Force winger, a source close to the player disclosed.

The source further informed www.busybuddiesng.com that Iwuala left Nigeria for Tunisia on Friday to discuss personal terms and undergo a compulsory medical before putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.

“As I speak with you now, Anayo (Iwuala) is in Tunisia to discuss personal terms with Esperance after Enyimba reached an agreement with the North African team,” the source, who pleaded anonymity, said.

“Both teams have agreed a transfer fee of around $500,000, and Anayo will be signing a 3-year deal if he passes the medical and they agree personal terms.”

Last season, Iwuala, who has played five times for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, scored six goals in all competitions for the People’s Elephant, including two goals on the final day of the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season on Thursday, as Enyimba defeated Dakkada FC 3-1 in Uyo to seal a place on the continent next season.

Admired for his pace, drive, vision and dribbling ability, Iwuala also created 16 assists for the 8-time Nigerian champions across all competitions in the last campaign.

He is expected to bolster the forward line of the record 31-time Tunisian champions Esperance in the upcoming season.

Iwuala was an integral part of the Enyimba side that reached the quarter-finals of the 2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup.
