Europa League: Sevilla Strike Late To End Wolves Run And Book Man Utd Semi, Shaktar See Off Basel

Sevilla scored late into their quarterfinal tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers to set up a semi-final against Manchester United on Sunday.

Lucas Ocampos headed home from Ever Banega’s cross two minutes from time to bring Wolves’ European odyssey to a halt.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side – whose 2019-20 season lasted 383 days – had a glorious early chance to take the lead in the ninth minute but Raul Jimenez’s penalty was saved.

The English side were under the cosh from thereon as Sevilla dominated h goal of the season to settle the tie.

The defeat puts an end to Wolves last chance for European football next season as their seventh-place finish in the Premier League falls out the European qualification places.

Sevilla remain on course for a record-extending sixth Europa League crown and have history on their side having won the competition in its present iteration each time they’ve made the semifinals.

Elsewhere, Ukrainian side Shaktar Donestk will play Inter Milan after they made easy work of Basel in Gelsenkirchen.

The Ukrainian side took an early lead through Junior Moraes, before Taison doubled their lead.

Alan Patrick’s spot-kick made it 3-0 after Taison was fouled, and Dodo added a fourth, before Ricky van Wolfswinkel hit a late consolation.

Shakhtar will face Inter in Dusseldorf on Monday, 17 August.
