NPFL: Emotional Maikaba Hopes For A “Beautiful Game” Against Everton’s Akwa United (AUDIO)

Former Akwa United head coach, Abdu Maikaba is back to face his former club for the first time since he left, this time in the colours of Plateau United.

The former boss who led The promise keepers to win the Aiteo Cup and finished second on the log behind Lobi Stars in the 2017/2018 NPFL season is back in the touchline of the nest of champions but this time as an opponent.

Maikaba who has managed more than a quarter of the expected starting lineup of the Promise Keepers tomorrow was very emotional while speaking to Bisybiddiesng.com after his first training session with Plateau United in Uyo.

“I am very happy to be back to Uyo which is a return that is emotional because I am here not to work for Akwa United but I am here working for another club to face Akwa United. That’s part of the job. I am so happy to be in this Stadium again. ” He said.

Maikaba admitted the league is tough and as such, every match is a must win. He went further to state that, in a case where a win is not feasible, then a draw could be managed.

“Any team that is playing a league competition anywhere you go you try to go for the maximum three points but in the process if it becomes so difficult, you can go for one. Sometimes you can lose games nothing happens you remain focused on continuing to put effort to see what you’ll achieve in future but I believe we are very ready for the match”

Coach Abdu also noted that even as he knows the core playing style of his former charges, it will also be a daunting task as those same players are used to his tactics and as such would try to stop his new wards.

Akwa United will trade tackles with Plateau United on Wednesday, 4.pm Nigerian time at the Nest of champions.
