El-kanemi Warriors have climbed out of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) relegation zone following their 2-0 win over AITEO Cup champions Akwa United in a rescheduled game played at the Maiduguri Township Stadium on Thursday night.

Michael Ohanu struck from the penalty spot to give Coach Imama Amapakabo’s side the lead in the 11th minute before Sani Abbani wrapped up the victory in the second half to hand the hosts a crucial victory in the fight to beat the drop.

The home side climb out of the relegation zone (17th spot) and above teams like Sunshine Stars, Nasarawa United and Go Round into 14th position with 26 points while Akwa United stay in 7th place with 29 points.[tps_header][/tps_header]
