Edo 2020: Nwokocha Seals Olympic Qualification, Akintola Wins 200m Gold

Grace Nwokocha sealed her place as Nigeria’s queen of the track with a dominant victory in the women’s 200m on Monday, 48 hours after claiming the 100m crown at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State.

Nwokocha running in the colours of Team Delta dipped under 23s for the first time in her career and sealed qualification to the Tokyo Olympics with a Personal Best of 22.79s.

Team Bayelsa’s Tima Godbless added 200m silver to her Bronze medal in the 100m with a Personal Best (PB) of 23.65 while Team Delta’s Praise also getting on the PB train to take 3rd in 23.74s.

In the men’s 200m Team Edo’s Alaba Akintola took gold in a time of 20.51s ahead of Team Lagos’ Jerry Jakpa who finished in second place and equalled his PB of 20.59s while Chidi Okezie of Team Delta took bronze with 20.85s.
