The National Council on Sports has recommended that the 2020 National Sports Festival be held between 3-18 December.
The festival had been postponed in March a few days to its start date due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
Efforts have, however, intensified in recent days to ensure the festival also known as “Edo 2020” holds before year’s end after the Federal Government lifted restrictions on all sports.
A statement issued by the Council following a meeting of its Technical Committee on Friday, proposed Thursday, 3 December as commencement date for the Games with the opening ceremony scheduled for 5 December and closing ceremony on Thursday, 17 December.
“The Virtual meeting held earlier this year unanimously agreed to host the Festival this year,” the Council noted in a statement.
The Sports Ministry, however, stressed that the recommendations are subject to approval by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and a final approval by President Mohammadu Buhari.
