Eagles Held By DR Congo In World Cup Warm Up Clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting DR Congo at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt in what was a warm up game for the hosts ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

William Troost-Ekong produced a close range finish to give 3-time African champions Nigeria the lead and Gernot Rohr’s team held on to the lead with impressive saves from first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho only for the 1-0 lead to evaporate in the last 15 minutes.

Substitute Ola Aina was penalised for a foul in the box and Cedric Ngulubi made no mistake as he tucked away the penalty to earn Florent Ibenge’s side a well deserved 1-1 draw with the home side.

Attentions will now turn to Saturday’s huge friendly clash with the Three Lions of England at the Wembley as the Super Eagles continue to prepare for this summer’s tournament in Russia.
